Still with the electrics
Swapped my voltage regulator with a spare to see if that made a difference, but it didn’t. So either both regulators are bad, or the generator is toast. I also replaced the brushes on the gen., but that didn’t fix it either, and looking inside it, it looks like the field windings are melted and toasty.
I’m going over to my dad’s tomorrow to help him strip down and install an engine for his ‘74 Super Beetle; his old engine’s case cracked, and it’s impossible to repair. So, I’m going to swipe the alternator (and fuel pump & pushrod) and install it on mine.
