Apple&#039;s choice of ADB and SCSI was made because they were technically superior that other technologies - serial, parallel, micro-channel, IDE, EIDE, etc.  Apple moved to USB when it made sense (and well before it was popular).  They helped develop Firewire because there was nothing like it (there still isn&#039;t, USB2 is inferior  and there&#039;s nothing close to Firewire 800).  I&#039;ll never undestand why cameras use iLink rather than full Firewire - seems doomed to make Firewire a second rate techhology when it is actually still way in front.

Anyhow, the problem was the cost of Apple&#039;s choice of components, not the fact that they were proprietary.</description>
