Daylight Savings

Well, as predicted, Bush signed the bill extending Daylight Savings. What a retarded thing to do. With the stroke of a pen, hundreds of millions of electronic devices are rendered obsolete. Every single device which keeps time must now be updated to understand the new rules. This doesn’t sound too bad, but consider this: every one of those systems will have to understand not just the new rules, but maintain the old rules for dates prior to the switchover.

This is very bad, and will cost a huge amount of money. It’s being compared to the Y2K situation, and while it’s not perfect, it’s definitely similar. All those crusty COBOL programmers are going to be in demand again to update bank systems.

I hope this fundamentally flawed idea is repealed quickly.
