This is news to me; flag burning (and desecration) is illegal in Washington State.

RCW 9.86.030 is the law in question, as well as Chapter 9.86. According to these titles, the following acts are prohobited:

• Mutilitating
• Defacing
• Defiling
• Burning
• Trampling
• Modify a flag with a mark, picture, or design, even if it isn’t displayed

This applies to both the U.S. flag and the Washington State flag, and the offenses are a gross misdemeanor. Ridiculous!

Legislation like this makes me want to buy a flag, just so I can draw an anarchy sign on it, rip it in two, hang it outside on display, set it on fire, then put the fire out by jumping on it.
