More OS X annoyances

  • iTunes 5. I like the new UI look, but… it’s yet another inconsistent skin. One of my pet peeves with OS X is how there are so many competing interfaces - the standard style, the metal style, this new one, etc etc. I like the look, I just don’t like that it’s more inconsistency.
  • iTunes 5 again. I can no longer move the track name column, nor can I disable it. It’s permanently stuck on the far left, which is stupid and inconsistent. Music in iTunes (and on the iPod) has always been organized: Artist → Album → Track. That’s no longer possible.
  • Address Book’s Bluetooth. I don’t know why, but the BT connection between Address Book and my Nokia only lasts around 30 minutes, then disconnects. This is terribly frustrating; I’m usually wearing headphones, and I depend on the pop-up call notification to alert me to a phone call. I have to constantly pay attention to this and reconnect whenever it drops. Also - and I think this is an issue with the Nokia, not OS X - I can’t have my phone connected to my Bluetooth headeset and Address Book at the same time. Irritating. Edit: It was the phone. I have a Sony-Ericsson T616 now, and it works fine.
  • Well, I found that Finder can do transparent FTP via Go → Connect to Server. But they don’t support SFTP or FTP+SSL. I need this.

On the positive front, Safari appears to render this site almost perfectly. It seems to have some inconsistent positioning issues with the chopped corners, but 2.0.1 definitely improves the situation. I hope the next version uses the iTunes skin; I detest the brushed metal look.
