LG LDA-511

So, I’ve been looking for a DVD player that plays MPEG-4 (XviD, DiVX etc) for a while now. I almost bought the Philips DVP-642 a while back, but I decided against it. I wanted something bulletproof, and it has problems with files encoded with QPEL and/or GMC. This was not what I wanted.

Yesterday, though, I found this player: the LG LDA-511. I did some research, and bought one. It was a bit spendy at $170, but it’s worth every penny. It has played everything I have thrown at it with no problem at all, it can be made region-free (tested with Delicatessen Region 2 DVD), it converts PAL, reads seven different flash memory cards, and on and on and on. I’m very pleased; now I have to get another to replace the Memorex in my bedroom.

    Hi

Great to hear the LG LDA-511 is good. I am about to buy one, if I can find the zone free hack. Can you share the hack with me please?

    Thanks

I used the hack listed on VideoHelp; here’s a direct link. It’s the same hack as for the LG DVB418, and it worked just fine for me.

I have not been able to get my LG LDA-511 to play MPEG4 CD’s burned by Nero Recode2 Version 7, very unhappy with this, does anyone know of a fix for this, I still have one week left to return this to Circuit City no questions asked. Thanks. Tom

  6. Ian Eure Says:

Tom. I’d suggest that you use different software. Nero may be spitting out M4V files; I don’t know if the LDA-511 supports these.

Use something that outputs to AVI.

Nero Recode encodes to MPEG-4 but with AAC audio which the LG does not support. GordianKnot is one of the best encoders to XviD/DivX but it is complicated, so if you are a novice to video encoding it may not be for you. Otherwise most of the pay packages like TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress will work.

Could you tell me where did you buy.

  9. Ian Eure Says:

Taylor, I bought it at Best Buy.
