Lots more done, stuck now
In no particular order:
- New clutch, cover, and throwout bearing. This was easy as pie, partly because the newer trans necessitated converting to a newer style clutch cover, which didn’t require the delicate alignment the old style did.
- Transplanted the spring for the clutch actuating arm from the old trans to the new. Easy once I got it moving and some penetrating oil in there.
- Got the transmission back in the car, CV joints bolted up, etc.
- New pedestal for the…
- New alternator.
- New body-to-tin seals for the engine bay. The old ones were incredibly rotten. Rust is eating away the driver’s side seal track - accursed battery tray!
- Replaced the throttle cable.
- Engine back in the car, etc.
I am, however, stuck again. The circlip holding the clutch operating lever in place popped off, because it was worn out. I have new circlips, but the arm won’t stay in place long enough for me to clip it on. The alternator is larger than the generator, and the accelerator pump linkage on the carb is stuck on it. I’m also waiting for a new guide tube for the throttle cable, since mine was almost chewed through. I want to do the wiring for the alternator, but if it won’t fit, I may have to go back to a generator and undo it all.
Edit: Aargh! I need a spacer for the carb/alt to work. Oval’s usually carries them, but the guy said he sold the last one yesterday. Looks like the Ghia won’t be on the road this weekend.
