I bought a couple Air Hogs Aero Aces the other day, on recommendation of the Awful Forums. They’re very simple styrofoam radio controlled planes, and they are insanely fun.
I just got back from Cal Anderson Park, where I spent about twenty minutes flying around, buzzing homeless guys asleep on the grass, and nearly interrupting a softball game with mine. I think the amount of fun I just had may be illegal in some states.
They have small rechargable batteries in the planes; the controller takes 6 AA batteries, and charges the plane. They run 10-15 minutes on one charge. They’re $30. Though they are made of foam, they’re quite durable.
The only problem I had with mine was that I had a very hard time controlling it out of the box. I suspect it was due to the plane’s light weight, and the amount of wind where I was flying it. I taped a penny to the bottom of the nose, in front of the plastic block of electronics, and found it much easier to control, though it doesn’t climb as well.
