Notes on city living

Parking sucks. But I’ve become better at parallel parking than I could have ever imagined.

My first power bill was $13. At my old place, I was paying $40/mo in the summer, and sometimes upwards of $100 in the winter. I hope this is not a first-month fluke.

Connectivity is fantastic. There’s free WiFi all over the place, and I have 7 mbit DSL.

Walking to work rocks.

Walking to nearly any place I need to go (the gym being the only major exception) also rocks.

USPS sucks. I can put a letter to Port Orchard at 3:00pm, which has a physical key enclosed – most likely heavier than what you can send for the standard 39¢ postage – and it’s in the destination mailbox the next day. When I need something sent from Tacoma here, it gets sent back as undeliverable, resent, lost in the mail for three weeks, and finally arrives on the 14th.

Mail to people other than me arrives promptly. Ryon Lane, wherever you are, I hate you you are my bestest buddy ever.

Discussion

I’m terribly sorry about the mail thing – I too had trouble when a manager at Pine St. Apts….

I promise it’s not my fault!

And, just for the record, I live in LA now – and I miss Seattle!

Hey there…any chance I can convince you to plesae amend your blog posting from June 16, 2006 to omit the phrase “Ryon Lane, wherever you are, I hate you.”?

Unfortunately, when people google me, your posting comes up 2nd in line of all results, which isn’t all that pleasant when people are googling me after I’ve applied for a job…

I would really appreciate your help…

Thanks,
Ryon Lane

Thank you very much for the amendment! I hope your mail is arriving in a more timely fashion now! :)
