It seems to be fairly common, and fix is reasonable simple. I hereby dub this problem the Blue Screen of Mild Inconvenience.

I just realized that it didn’t happen at all until I re-enabled the “Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver” option. Seems to be related.
